I chose this article because it talked about how college bookstores use displays to increase their sales.  Brian Alexander- Fetterman said,”We use mannequins a great deal. We do themed displays for holidays like Halloween. One of our most successful apparel displays had our mannequins dressed as if they were college students who had turned into zombies, and we captioned it ‘finals week.” What about mannequins make people want to buy things? They also talked about put impulse buy items near the registers. The next big thing article is selling the right items in the store. Universities in colder places found that they sell more hats,scarves,and gloves: when universities in warmer places sell more flip flops. It's all about how you display items and what you're displaying.

I picked this article because it talks about how they sell fashion apparel in hospital gift. They talk about many different ways to sell the fashion apparel items. The  St. Joseph’s Hospital in Houston, Texas, their store supervisor said,” the best way to sell both more apparel and accessories is a “combination of suggestive selling and our displays. Our staff knows our merchandise and is able to offer suggestions to customers.” The next method was trying to have items that big box stores wouldn't have, so people will want to buy things in the hospital store rather than a name brand store. The final method was to promote different brands every week. Of course their were many methods they mentioned in the article but theses were some of the biggest ones they talked about.

In the article, they talk about the 4 steps you go through in the fashion industry, market or product category, product type or fashion style, market level, and location of the market. They talk about the 2 types of fashion: haute couture and ready-to-wear. Haute couture is the more expensive one of a kind clothing, were ready-to-wear is your lower end mass-produced items.

        The next big topic they talked about was the fashion capitals of the world. The first was Paris; there is a big haute couture vibe in Paris. They can have up to 5 fashion shows in a year for haute couture. The next city was London, they are known more for avant-garde fashion. London also has many fashion shows with many known designers attending. The final European fashion capital is Milan. Milan is known for haute couture and the higher end of ready-to-wear. Finally the heart of fashion in the U.S., New York City. Some of the world’s top designers have their headquarters in New York. New York’s big fashion show is New York Fashion Week. They also mention up and coming countries in the fashion industry are Brazil, Russia, India, and China.
